The real estate market can be a wild ride, with people on one end saying they can’t believe the high prices, while others warn of an impending crash. However, data from the National Association of Realtors shows that in the U.S., home values have been appreciating at a steady rate of 4% per year for the past 30 years. Despite the recent surge in home values, we are still on track with this trend.
“The real estate market can be a wild ride.”
While home prices did drop below this trend line from 2008 to 2012, recent years have seen impressive growth, with values appreciating by 9%, 18%, and 10% in 2020, 2021, and 2022, respectively. Yet, these increases have only brought us back to the 4% trend line. So, while the market may seem crazy right now, the data suggests that prices are likely to remain steady in the future.
