Should You Buy or Sell During the Holidays?

Here are a few reasons why you should consider buying or selling now.

Should you buy or sell a home during the holiday season? Your friends and family would likely say that it’s the most wonderful time of the year, but not to buy or sell a home. They say that because there are travel plans, family is coming, and you have parties and events planned. So with all that going on, you probably don’t want to schedule people to view your home.

However, today I want to share a few things that might change your mind. The holidays are a great time to both buy and sell a home.

First, a couple of points for sellers:

  • Lack of competition. During the holidays, most people have decided to wait to sell, pushing their plans until January. Since that’s what the majority of people are doing, if your home is on the market now, you’re in the driver’s seat. Your home will be in front of all the buyers who are currently out there looking to purchase. There may even be a frenzy surrounding your home because there are so few on the market. If you sell during the holidays, you have an advantage.
  • Serious buyers. Those looking to buy a home during the holidays are not tire-kickers. They’re not out to see how your home is decorated; they could have relocated, already sold their home, and are desperately looking for their next house. They are ready and motivated, which makes them wonderful buyers.

Also, a couple of points for buyers:

  • Lack of competition. This is a hot market for sellers—it has been all year, so you want the biggest advantage you can get. To get it, look for properties now while the other buyers are waiting until January. There will be more competition after the new year, so right now is the time to find the best property for you.
  • Memories. A few years ago, my family moved into our new home on December 17. We didn’t have a tree or decorations, and we didn’t know where anything was. However, that holiday was one of the best memories we have. We ended up running out to find a tree and decorations on clearance, and we ate Christmas dinner off of paper plates, but it was funwe were celebrating our brand-new home! We still talk about that time fondly today.

We sell houses all 12 months of the year, and we’re here to help you. If you want to buy, sell, or have real estate questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us via phone or email.
