It’s time for our Community Spotlight series, where we highlight amazing communities in Birmingham! Today, we’re featuring Edgewood in Homewood, Alabama. Far from its humble beginnings, holding town meetings in the mayor’s garage, Edgewood is now a thriving suburb just south of Birmingham. Known for its walkability, beautiful architecture, and tight-knit community, Edgewood is a place where second, third, and even fourth generations return to live, keeping the family spirit alive.
Residents can be found walking the sidewalks, enjoying local favorites like The Creamery or Taco Mama for ice cream or Saw’s Barbecue and Local 39 for southern comfort food. For breakfast, check out Ruby Sunshine, or for a healthy option, visit The Greenhouse for fresh salads. If you’re looking to unwind, Escape Day Spa is also available.
There are plenty of establishments to explore in Edgewood, including Trilogy Leather, Red Dot Gallery, and Sim’s Garden, a five-lot property donated by the late Katharine Sims for the community to enjoy as a park. Also, don’t miss Gianmarco’s, the must-visit Italian restaurant in the neighborhood.
